Here's what I've come up with based on your input.
This mission of the Wellsboro High School band is to:
- educate the students in the art of creating music
- entertain and serve our community
- express ourselves through the joy of making music
- work hard so we can have fun
- preserve the musical foundation of a proud high school for future generations
- foster a sense of teamwork among our members and instill community pride
- inspire people through the performance of quality music
- create meaningful, lasting relationships with peers as a result of working together toward
a common goal
- conduct ourselves in a manner that exhibits our talents, abilities, and mature mindsets
- cultivate hard-working, dedicated, responsible, and intelligent citizens who will impact our
society positively

I find that the mission statement will give a new perspective on the purpose of band. Usually it's come sit, get instrument, play, go to next class, have lessons, yadayadayada. But now, it shows meaning. I like it. Why? Idk, it sounds smart. :]

ReplyDeleteI don't really think it will help that much. It's all well and good to sit down and write a mission statement, but how often are they actually used after they're finished?
ReplyDeleteThat's the hard part - making everyone stick to what it says. I plan on printing the mission statment, framing it and hanging it in various places throughout the band room. For now, I was looking for any added input on if the mission statement is good the way it is? or if we wanted to add or change anything...I haven't gotten much feedback on that part of it. That's what is holding me back from printing, framing, etc.
